Research has shown the climate is always changing. Research has also shown that human made emissions affect that rate of change. The degree to which this affects the global climate is debatable, but we must act or we will continue to make no progress on a very real issue: the climate is rapidly becoming inhospitable to human life.

There is no way to accurately measure the financial burden that climate change will have on the world globally. Sea levels will rise so significantly that entire countries will cease to be. This will have two effects: mass death and migration.

Winter Storm Uri was devastating to Texas - I was there, I lived through it. If crop growing states are hit with similar extreme weather events prior to harvest, we could find a scarcity of food in American grocery stores nationwide. A single storm, at just the wrong moment, has the potential to cause famine on a scale none alive have witnessed before. Money will be meaningless if there is no food to buy.

Humanity is running out of time to deal with this as a species. There is no way to sugarcoat it without misrepresenting the research. Extreme weather events are getting worse, lasting longer, and increasingly unpredictable. If we do not act proactively, we will be forced to act reactively. Regardless of our ability to halt climate change, we must start preparing for its inevitable consequences.

This is not a matter of politics; it is a matter of human survival. Any attempt at division on this topic is a direct threat to our continued existence.

• Enact legislation to handle massive climate change based migration.
• Increase funding for clean energy research from profits of fossil fuel investors.
• Revisit nuclear power as a valid and safe energy source.
• Collaborate with foreign governments to enhance disaster preparedness.
• Promote home gardening to mitigate the risk of widespread starvation.
• Reduce reliance on polluting energy technologies.
• Implement policies requiring remote work where possible.
